The Bee Gees get a last win with “You Win Again” in 1987

Once the kings of the 1970’s Disco sound, the Bee Gees saw a backlash to their music during most of the 1980’s decade. As Disco became an obsolete genre, Bee Gees music also became something of the past, despite the millions of records sold of songs such as “Stayin’ Alive,” “Tragedy,” “How Deep Is Your Love” or “You Should Be Dancing.” Their 1970’s Disco period was so successful that even shadowed the (also successful) melodic Pop music they did back in the 1960’s with songs such as “I Started a Joke,” “To Love Somebody” or “Words. But in 1987, the brothers Gibb got another last taste of success when they peaked to No.1 in several countries with the single “You Win Again.” In the U.K it peaked to No.1 on October 17, 1987, making the Bee Gees the first group to score a UK No. 1 hit in each of three decades: the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s. The song did well mostly in Europe, in the U.S, it flopped and reached only the No.75 in the Billboard Hot 100. This was the last time the Bee Gees scored a No.1 single. The song now remains a 1980’s Pop classic, and one of Bee Gees finest.
