18 years ago, Amy Winehouse says “No, No No” to “Rehab”
Amy’s Winehouse most successful single, “Rehab” from “Back to Black” album was released on October 23, 2006, this was her only song to reach Top 10 in the U.S, on the Hot 100 where it peaked to #9. By 2006 Amy Winehouse already had started to make a fuzz in the music world, her unique style and the vocals reminiscent of Jazz and Soul singers from the 50’s and 60’s as well as the blend of Retro-Soul with a modern beat made her second album “Back to Black” released in 2006, an almost instant classic. The song, a classic Soul and R&B composition, written by Amy Winehouse, it’s regarded as autobiographical by addressing Winehouse’s refusal to enter a rehabilitation clinic. Billboard remarked that Winehouse’s vocals on the song were “Shirley Bassey-meets-Ella Fitzgerald”. Internationally acclaimed, the song won three Grammy Awards at the 50th ceremony, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. The album “Back to Black” also scored other hits for Amy such as “You Know I’m No Good” and “Back to Black.” Amy Winehouse passed away in July 2011 at only 27 years old from alcohol poisoning.
