Spanish duo Baccara reaches No.1 with Disco hit “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” in 1977

On October 27th, 1977, the Spanish Disco duo Baccara reached No.1 on the UK charts with “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” written by Frank Dostal and Rolf Soja. Baccara were a curious case of success from Spain that became the first Spanish act to reach No.1 in the UK. Their smash disco hit “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie” was a tremendous success worldwide in 1977 and it’s one of the thirty all-time singles to have sold 10 million copies or more worldwide, in this case, 16 million copies, however, despite the worldwide success it didn’t chart in the U.S. As most of the successful disco acts from that era, Baccara soon fell into obscurity after the Disco fever went down, today, they are solely remembered as a one hit wonder.
