Blondie releases “Hanging on the Telephone” in 1978

In 1978 Blondie already had established themselves as one of the biggest New Wave and Rock bands in the world, their blending of Bubblegum Pop and Punk was unique and allowed them to create a distinctive sound from other bands of the era. Blondie released their best-selling album, the successful “Parallel Lines” in September 1978 and on October 30th their third single from the album, “Hanging on the Telephone.” Although a cover of the US West Coast power pop trio The Nerves, the song was popularized by Blondie and it’s their version that still remains the most memorable one. The single failed to peak to the top of the charts in the U.S but reached No.5 in the UK. Other hits from “Parallel Lines” were “One Way or Another,” “Picture This,” “Sunday Girl” and “Heart of Glass.”
