Former Undertones’ Feargal Sharkey peaks to No. 1 with a “A Good Heart” in 1985
Irish singer Feargal Sharkey, formerly of the Undertones got his first No.1 on November 16th, 1985, with the song “A Good Heart.” Written by Maria McKee about her relationship with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers keyboard player Benmont Tench and produced by the Eurythmics’ David A. Stewart, this was Sharkey’s third solo single. And his only number one single in the U.K, the song did well across Europe, but it fared less well in the US, peaking at No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100, however remains one of the 1980’s most memorable songs. Sharkey followed up the single with Tench written ‘You Little Thief,’ this time about Tench’s relationship with McKee.
