Kim Wilde stands as one of the greatest New Wave and Pop female artists of all time. The British singer scored several Hit singles during the 1980’s and has influenced people as diverse as Dave Grohl that recorded a cover of “Kids in America” in 1991 and later live with Nirvana. Kim Wilde was born on 18th November 1960 in Chiswick, Middlesex, England the daughter of Rocker Martin Wylde and singer Joyce Baker. She rose to prominence in the early 1980’s with the New Wave Pop Boom with the hit single “Kids in America” that peaked to the top of the charts mainly across Europe in 1981 and to No.25 in the U.S Hot 100 turning “Kids in America” in an absolute New Wave classic. The singer scored several hits throughout the 1980’s including “Cambodia” and “View from a Bridge” in 1982, in 1985 the music video for “The Second Time” appeared on the TV Series “Knight Rider” and in 1988. In 1986 she got her only U.S Hot 100 No.1 with her cover of The Supremes “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” the song stands as one of the most memorable 1980’s Pop songs and one of her signature ones. Kim Wilde became the fifth UK female solo artist ever to top the US Hot 100, following Petula Clark, Lulu, Sheena Easton, and Bonnie Tyler, she later admitted to “not knowing the song terribly well” beforehand. In 1988 Kim Wilde opened for Michael Jackson during his European leg of the “Bad Tour,” the same year she released another hit single, “You Came” that did well in Europe. In 1990 she opened for another legendary act, David Bowie, during his European tour. Her successful string of hit singles would not repeat again during the 1990’s although she kept her career active. She also enrolled in an acting career and Since November 2001, Wilde has toured the UK three times (and once in Australia during 2003) as part of the Here and Now Tour, an Eighties revival concert series, together with artists such as Paul Young, The Human League, Belinda Carlisle, Howard Jones and Five Star.
