Bon Jovi hits the Hot 100 No.1 again in 1988 with “Bad Medicine”

Written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Desmond Child and released in September 1988 as the lead single from the band’s album “New Jersey,” “Bad Medicine” reached No.1 in the Hot 100 on November 19th, 1988. The song became a live staple for Bon Jovi and one of their greatest hits and most recognizable ones. There are two videos for the song, one with the band live in concert, and a more well-known live video in which a crowd of young people waiting in line to get into the video shoot is asked by Sam Kinison if they (the public) “can make a better Bon Jovi video than these guys can.” The crowd gives a very enthusiastic response, and members of the crowd are given hand-held cameras and invited onstage to help shoot the video. “Bad Medicine” stands along with “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Wanted Dead or Alive” as one of Bon Jovi’s essential songs. Aside of “Bad Medicine” the band also scored hits on the “New Jersey” album with “Lay Your Hands on Me,” “Born to Be My Baby” and “I’ll Be There for You.”
