The drummer Matt Sorum celebrates 64 today

The drummer, songwriter, and producer Matt Sorum, best known for his work with iconic rock bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Velvet Revolver, and The Cult, was born on November 19, 1960, in Mission Viejo, California, USA.
Sorum’s career took off in the mid-1980s when he joined The Cult, contributing to their albums Sonic Temple (1989) and touring with the band. His powerful and dynamic drumming style caught the attention of Guns N’ Roses, who recruited him in 1990 to replace Steven Adler. Sorum joined during the recording of the band’s Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II albums, which became monumental successes, further cementing his status as a top-tier drummer.
In the early 2000s, Sorum co-founded Velvet Revolver, alongside former Guns N’ Roses members Slash and Duff McKagan, as well as Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots. Their debut album, Contraband (2004), was a commercial hit, earning a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.
Outside of his band projects, Sorum has collaborated with numerous artists, including Tori Amos, Motörhead, and Sammy Hagar. He has also worked as a producer and contributed to various soundtracks. In addition to his music career, Sorum is an advocate for animal rights and environmental causes.
