In 1955 Bo Diddley is banned from The Ed Sullivan Show

Bo Diddley became the first Rock Star to be banned from The Ed Sullivan Show when on November 20th, 1955, he defied Ed Sullivan by singing his song “Bo Diddley” instead of the demanded “Sixteen Tons.” The successful TV Show, despite helping to promote the growth of Rock music, often imposed strict rules for artists to perform, among some of the most popular acts that were banned or censored by the show were Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Doors and The Rolling Stones.
