KC and The Sunshine Band goes No.1 with the Disco-Funk hit “That’s The Way (I Like It)” in 1975
On November 22nd, 1975, the Disco-Funk song by KC and The Sunshine Band “That’s The Way (I Like It)” peaked to No.1 at the Hot 100. This was the band’s second No.1 after “Get Down Tonight”. The song became an international hit, and it’s still regarded as their signature song. It has been sampled several times and played an important part in the development of the Disco sound of the late 1970’s. For release as a single and radio airplay, the song was toned down from the original recording, which would have jeopardized getting radio airplay at the time. However, the sexual overtones may have improved the record’s reception at discos, increasing its overall popularity in the charts.
