John Malkovich is an actor of a unique talent, and for decades he has gifted us with his acting diversity, playing villains on blockbusters or historical character or even grabbing roles in obscure European films.
John Gavin Malkovich was born on December 9, 1953, in Christopher, Illinois. He grew up in Benton, Illinois, where his father, Daniel Leon Malkovich, was a state conservation director, and his mother, Joe Anne, owned the Benton Evening News.
Malkovich’s passion for acting led him to co-found the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 1976, where he honed his craft in various stage productions. His performance in Sam Shepard’s play “True West” earned him an Obie Award in 1983.
Transitioning to film, Malkovich made a significant impact with his role as Mr. Will in “Places in the Heart” (1984), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to deliver compelling performances in films such as “Dangerous Liaisons” (1988) and “In the Line of Fire” (1993), the latter garnering him another Academy Award nomination.
In 1999, Malkovich portrayed a fictionalized version of himself in the critically acclaimed film “Being John Malkovich,” showcasing his ability to engage in self-parody.
His diverse filmography includes roles in “The Man in the Iron Mask” (1998), “Red” (2010), and “Bird Box” (2018).
Malkovich has also ventured into directing and producing, co-founding Mr. Mudd Productions in 1998 and explored fashion design, launching his own menswear line, Technobohemian.
Malkovich was married to actress Glenne Headly from 1982 until their divorce in 1988. He has been in a long-term relationship with Nicoletta Peyran since 1989, and they have two children together.
