The American actress and model Susan Dey, best known for her roles in iconic television series, was born Susan Hallock Dey on December 10, 1952, in Pekin, Illinois. She rose to fame in the 1970s as Laurie Partridge on the hit musical sitcom The Partridge Family, a role that made her a teen idol. The series, which aired from 1970 to 1974, followed a fictional family band and showcased Dey’s talent and charisma.
After The Partridge Family, Dey sought to move beyond her teen idol image and pursued diverse acting roles. She achieved critical acclaim for her performance as Grace Van Owen, a deputy district attorney, in the legal drama L.A. Law. Her portrayal earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 1988 and multiple Emmy nominations. The show aired from 1986 to 1992.
Beyond these standout roles, Dey appeared in several television movies and feature films, including Looker (1981) and Echo Park (1986). She also hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live and participated in various charitable causes throughout her career.
Dey married Leonard “Lenny” Hirshan in 1976, and the couple had one daughter before divorcing in 1981. In 1988, she married television producer Bernard Sofronski, and they have remained together since. Dey has kept her personal life largely private and stepped away from acting in the early 2000s.
In recent years Dey has focused on her family and philanthropic efforts, preferring a low-key existence after decades in the spotlight.
