Less than five years before his untimely death, that transformed him into one of the biggest icons in the planet, James Dean premiered on the TV screen in a commercial for Pepsi. On December 13, 1950, 19-year-old Dean appeared for the first time to audiences in what was his first paid acting gig, earning him $30 for laughing, banging on the piano, and sipping soda. Dean, who studied method acting in New York, appeared in several TV series between 1951 and 1954, usually cast in secondary roles until he landed a Warner Bros contract premiering with the classic “East of Eden” in 1954, and doing two more cinema masterpieces, “Rebel Without a Cause” premiered in 1955, and “Giant,” premiered posthumously in 1956, which earned him an Oscar nomination. James Dean passed away at age 24 on September 30, 1955, in Salinas, California during a car race, when his Porsche Spider crashed. Since then, his cult status and following hasn’t stopped growing worldwide, and most unlikely will stop. Alongside figures such as Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley, he is one of Pop Culture’s biggest names and icons, symbolizing eternal youth, talent and beauty.
