Brad Pitt was born on this day in 1963

One of the most famous and talented contemporary actors turns 61 today

Brad Pitt was born on this day in 1963

Pitt is one of the most recognizable people on the planet, but in spite of that, he’s rotated through an ever-changing range of looks and styles. Pitt first gained recognition as a cowboy hitchhiker in the 1991 road movie “Thelma & Louise”. The actor would go on to win two Golden Globe Awards and won Academy Award.

Brad Pitt was born William Bradley Pitt on December 18, 1963, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and raised in Springfield, Missouri. Growing up in a conservative, middle-class family, Pitt was the eldest of three siblings. His father, William Alvin Pitt, managed a trucking company, while his mother, Jane Etta, worked as a school counselor.
Pitt attended the University of Missouri, majoring in journalism with a focus on advertising. However, just two weeks shy of graduating, he decided to pursue his dream of acting. He moved to Los Angeles, where he took acting lessons and worked odd jobs, including as a limousine driver and a refrigerator mover, before landing small roles in television series like Dallas and Growing Pains.
Pitt’s breakout role came in 1991 with Thelma & Louise, where his portrayal of a charming drifter showcased his charisma and good looks. This role catapulted him to stardom, leading to major roles in A River Runs Through It (1992), Legends of the Fall (1994), and Interview with the Vampire (1994).
Over the years, Pitt has demonstrated remarkable versatility, delivering critically acclaimed performances in films such as Seven (1995), Fight Club (1999), and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). His production company, Plan B Entertainment, has also been instrumental in creating award-winning films, including 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Moonlight (2016), both of which won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
In 2020, Pitt won his first acting Oscar for his role as stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).
Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston from 2000 to 2005. Shortly after their divorce, he began a relationship with Angelina Jolie, with whom he shares six children. The couple, famously nicknamed “Brangelina,” married in 2014 but separated in 2016. Pitt has been open about his personal struggles, including battles with alcohol, and has since focused on self-improvement and co-parenting his children.
Today, Pitt remains one of Hollywood’s most bankable and respected actors. In recent years, he has taken on more nuanced roles, balancing acting with producing. Beyond his film career, Pitt is known for his philanthropy, including his work with the Make It Right Foundation to build sustainable housing in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Here’s a look back at our Top 5 Brad Pitt films.
