Joseph Frank “Joe” Pesci was born on February 9, 1943, in Newark, New Jersey. He began his entertainment career early, appearing on the television variety show “Star Time Kids” at the age of 10. In the 1960s, he pursued music, recording an album under the name Joe Ritchie and playing guitar with bands like Joey Dee and the Starliters.
Pesci’s acting breakthrough came with his role in Martin Scorsese’s “Raging Bull” (1980), where he portrayed Joey LaMotta, earning him an Academy Award nomination. He gained further acclaim for his performances in “Goodfellas” (1990), winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and for memorable roles in “My Cousin Vinny” (1992) and the “Lethal Weapon” series.
In 1999, Pesci announced his retirement from acting to focus on his music career. However, he made notable returns to the screen, including a role in “The Irishman” (2019), which earned him another Academy Award nomination.
Pesci was married to Claudia Haro from 1988 to 1992, and they have a daughter together. He was also in a relationship with actress Angie Everhart from 2000 to 2008.
Today, Pesci continues to engage in select acting projects. He starred alongside Pete Davidson and Edie Falco in the comedy series “Bupkis” (2023), playing Davidson’s grandfather. Additionally, he appeared in “Day of the Fight” (2023), directed by Jack Huston, portraying the father of a boxer making a comeback.
