On his 71st birthday, check out the Top 5 John Travolta Movies

John Joseph Travolta was born on February 18, 1954, in Englewood, New Jersey. He is the youngest of six children to parents Salvatore Travolta, a semi-professional football player turned tire salesman, and Helen Cecilia, an actress and singer who later became a high school drama and English teacher. Encouraged by his mother’s passion for the arts, Travolta developed an early interest in acting. At 16, he left high school to pursue a career in entertainment, securing roles in commercials and small television productions. He made his Off-Broadway debut in 1972 and soon after joined the Broadway cast of “Grease.”
Travolta’s breakthrough came with his portrayal of Vinnie Barbarino in the television sitcom “Welcome Back, Kotter” (1975–1979), which catapulted him to teen idol status. He solidified his fame with iconic film roles in “Saturday Night Fever” (1977) and “Grease” (1978), both of which became cultural phenomena and showcased his versatility as an actor and dancer. Despite a career slump in the 1980s, Travolta experienced a resurgence with his Academy Award-nominated performance in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction” (1994). This revival led to notable roles in films such as “Get Shorty” (1995), “Face/Off” (1997), and “Primary Colors” (1998).
Travolta married actress Kelly Preston in 1991. The couple had three children: Jett, Ella Bleu, and Benjamin. Tragically, Jett passed away in 2009, and Kelly Preston died in 2020 after battling breast cancer. Travolta has been open about the profound impact of these losses on his life.
Recently, he starred in the action-comedy series “Die Hart” (2020) alongside Kevin Hart, marking his return to television. Additionally, he has been involved in philanthropic efforts, including disaster relief missions, and maintains an active presence in the aviation community as a certified pilot.
