Michael Bolton celebrates 72 today

Michael Bolton was born Michael Bolotin on February 26, 1953, in New Haven, Connecticut. Raised in a musical household—his father sang in a doo-wop group and his mother was a pianist—he learned to play piano and guitar at an early age and began performing in local bands while still in his teens.
In the mid-1970s Bolton cut his teeth as the frontman for hard-rockers Black Oak Arkansas before embarking on a solo career that saw him evolve into one of adult contemporary’s defining voices. Throughout the 1980s he wrote hit songs for artists like Cher and Bonnie Tyler, but it was his own recordings—power-ballads such as “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “Said I Loved You…But I Lied”—that propelled him to international stardom. His 1991 album “Time, Love & Tenderness” sold over 12 million copies worldwide and earned him multiple Grammy Awards.
Over a career spanning four decades, Bolton has sold more than 75 million records, blending soulful vocals with polished pop-rock arrangements. Beyond his music, he is also known for his philanthropic work—particularly in the fight against human trafficking—and remains an enduring figure in popular song.
