The British singer-songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Nik Kershaw was born on March 1, 1958, in Bristol, England. Kershaw grew up in Ipswich, Suffolk, where he developed a passion for music from an early age. He learned to play guitar as a teenager and joined his first band, Half Pint Hogg, in 1974, which primarily performed Deep Purple covers. He later became a member of Fusion, a jazz-funk band, before embarking on a solo career after the group’s dissolution in 1982.
Kershaw’s solo career took off in 1984 with the release of his debut album, Human Racing, which included hits like “Wouldn’t It Be Good” and “I Won’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.” His follow-up album, The Riddle, also released in 1984, featured the titular track “The Riddle,” further cementing his status in the pop music scene. His distinctive sound and catchy melodies led to a series of global hits and extensive chart success during the mid-1980s.
Kershaw was first married to Sheri Kershaw, with whom he has three children. The couple divorced in 2003 after 20 years of marriage. In 2009, he married Sarah Kershaw, and they have one child together.
After his initial success, Kershaw continued to write and produce music, collaborating with artists such as Elton John, Bonnie Tyler, and Gary Barlow. He released several albums, including 15 Minutes (1999), To Be Frank (2001), and You’ve Got to Laugh (2006). In 2020, he released the album Oxymoron.
Today, Kershaw remains active in the music industry, performing at various events and festivals. In 2024, he co-headlined a tour with Go West in Australia.
