The unique Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider turns 70
Dee Snider was born Daniel Snider on March 15, 1955, in Astoria, New York. Snider was the lead singer and songwriter of Twisted Sister, the enduring Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band that reached the peak of their popularity during the 1980’s. The group released their first studio album, Under the Blade, in September 1982 and developed a following in the UK. Less than a year later, Twisted Sister released their sophomore effort, You Can’t Stop Rock ‘n’ Roll. Their third album, Stay Hungry, hit shelves on May 10, 1984. This would become the band’s most successful record with the hits “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock.” To emphasize the “twisted sister” image, Snider adopted a trademark persona of metal-inspired drag with long blond hair, an excessive amount of eye shadow and rouge, and bright red lipstick. After the band called it quit in 2016, Snider dedicated full time to his side projects that include radio, acting, comedy and many collaborations with other musicians and bands, as well as his own solo career. His latest solo album released in 2021 is “Leave a Scar”. Dee Snider turns 70 today
