Down’s acting career commenced with roles in British films such as “The Smashing Bird I Used to Know” (1969), “Assault” (1971), and “Countess Dracula” (1971). Her breakthrough came with the role of Georgina Worsley in the acclaimed ITV drama series “Upstairs, Downstairs” (1973–1975), which brought her international recognition.
Transitioning to Hollywood, Down appeared in notable films including “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” (1976), “The First Great Train Robbery” (1978) alongside Sean Connery, and “Hanover Street” (1979) with Harrison Ford.
