Remembering the comedian and actor John Pinette

John Paul Pinette was born on March 23, 1964, in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1982 and later earned a degree in accounting from the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 1986. After a brief stint as an accountant, Pinette transitioned to comedy, touring the club circuit beginning in the 1980s.
Pinette’s comedic style often revolved around self-deprecating humor, particularly focusing on his experiences with weight and food. His relatable observational humor, robust voice, and spot-on accents and impressions endeared him to audiences. In 1999, he was named Stand-Up Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards.
Beyond stand-up, Pinette appeared in various films and television shows. Notably, he played the carjacking victim in the final episode of the sitcom “Seinfeld” in 1998. His film credits include roles in “Junior” (1994), “The Punisher” (2004), and “The Last Godfather” (2010). Additionally, he was a regular on the series “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” and made guest appearances on shows like “ALF.”
In 2004, Pinette showcased his versatility by joining the touring cast of the musical “Hairspray,” portraying the character, Edna Turnblad. He later reprised this role on Broadway, continuing until May 28, 2006. His performance was well-received, demonstrating his ability to engage audiences beyond stand-up comedy.
Tragically, John Pinette passed away on April 5, 2014, at the age of 50. He was found in his hotel room in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he had been scheduled to perform. The cause of death was reported as a pulmonary embolism.
Throughout his career, Pinette’s humor and performances left a lasting impression on the comedy world, and he is remembered fondly by fans and fellow comedians alike.
