Marti Pellow, born Mark McLachlan on March 23, 1965, in Clydebank, Scotland. He grew up in Clydebank, attending Clydebank High School, where he formed a band with his school friends that eventually became Wet Wet Wet. The band’s name was inspired by a line from the Scritti Politti song “Gettin’ Havin’ & Holdin’.”
Pellow’s career began as a teenager when he formed Wet Wet Wet with his school friends.The band achieved significant success throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, with hits like “Wishing I Was Lucky,” “Sweet Little Mystery,” and their cover of The Troggs’ “Love Is All Around,” which remained at the top of the UK Singles Chart for 15 consecutive weeks in 1994.
In 1997, Pellow left Wet Wet Wet to pursue a solo career. His debut solo album, “Smile,” was released in 2001, showcasing his versatility as an artist. Beyond his music career, Pellow has made notable contributions to musical theatre. He made his West End debut in 2002, playing Billy Flynn in the musical “Chicago,” a role he later reprised on Broadway.
Throughout his career, Pellow has released multiple solo albums, including “Between the Covers” (2003), “Moonlight Over Memphis” (2006), and “Stargazer” (2021).
