James Yoshinobu Iha was born on March 26, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. He co-founded the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins in 1988, contributing as a guitarist and songwriter. The band achieved significant success with albums like “Gish” (1991), “Siamese Dream” (1993), and “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” (1995). Iha’s songwriting credits include tracks such as “Mayonaise” and “Take Me Down.”
In 1998, Iha released his debut solo album, “Let It Come Down,” showcasing a softer, acoustic style. After The Smashing Pumpkins disbanded in 2000, he collaborated with various artists and joined A Perfect Circle in 2003. In 2009, he co-formed the power pop supergroup Tinted Windows. Iha reunited with The Smashing Pumpkins in 2018 and continues to contribute to the band’s ongoing projects.
