Alexander Rae “Alec” Baldwin III was born on April 3, 1958, in Amityville, New York. Raised in Massapequa, Long Island, he is the eldest of six children, including brothers Daniel, William, and Stephen, who also pursued acting careers. Baldwin attended George Washington University before transferring to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he studied drama under the tutelage of Lee Strasberg.
Baldwin’s acting career began in television, with a notable role on the soap opera “The Doctors” from 1980 to 1982. He gained prominence with his performance in the primetime drama “Knots Landing” between 1984 and 1985. Transitioning to film, Baldwin appeared in “Beetlejuice” (1988) and achieved leading man status with “The Hunt for Red October” (1990), portraying Jack Ryan.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Baldwin showcased his versatility in films such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” (1992), “The Cooler” (2003), and “The Departed” (2006). His portrayal of Jack Donaghy on the NBC sitcom “30 Rock” from 2006 to 2013 earned him two Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards, solidifying his reputation in comedic roles.
In addition to acting, Baldwin has hosted “Saturday Night Live” multiple times, earning acclaim for his impersonation of former U.S. President Donald Trump. His personal life has been in the public eye, including his marriage to actress Kim Basinger from 1993 to 2002, with whom he has a daughter, Ireland. In 2012, he married Hilaria Thomas, and together they have seven children.
In 2021, Baldwin was involved in a tragic incident on the set of the film “Rust,” where a prop firearm discharged, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. This event led to legal proceedings and a hiatus from his acting career. In 2024, Baldwin and his wife launched a reality TV show, “The Baldwins,” providing an intimate look into their family life and addressing the aftermath of the “Rust” tragedy.
