Heath Andrew Ledger was born on April 4, 1979, in Perth, Western Australia. He developed an interest in acting during his school years, participating in various stage productions. At 17, Ledger moved to Sydney to pursue a career in acting. His early work included roles in Australian television series such as “Sweat” (1996) and “Home and Away” (1997).
Ledger’s breakthrough in Hollywood came with the teen comedy “10 Things I Hate About You” (1999), where he played Patrick Verona. He then showcased his versatility in films like “The Patriot” (2000), “A Knight’s Tale” (2001), and “Monster’s Ball” (2001). His portrayal of Ennis Del Mar in “Brokeback Mountain” (2005) earned him critical acclaim and nominations for both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actor.
In 2008, Ledger delivered a memorable performance as the Joker in “The Dark Knight,” a role that posthumously earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
