Lisa Jane Stansfield was born on April 11, 1966, in Rochdale, Lancashire, England. She grew up in a music-loving household, influenced by her mother’s collection of soul records, including artists like Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye. This early exposure to soul music shaped her distinctive vocal style.
Stansfield’s career began in 1980 when she won the singing competition “Search for a Star.” She gained further recognition as a presenter on the children’s television show “Razzmatazz.” In 1983, she formed the band Blue Zone with Ian Devaney and Andy Morris. The group released several singles and one album, but it was Stansfield’s collaboration with the electronic music duo Coldcut on the 1989 track “People Hold On” that brought her widespread attention.
Following this success, Stansfield launched her solo career with the debut album “Affection” in 1989. The album featured the hit single “All Around the World,” which topped charts internationally and showcased her soulful voice. She continued to release successful albums throughout the 1990s, including “Real Love” (1991), “So Natural” (1993), and “Lisa Stansfield” (1997), solidifying her status as a prominent figure in British soul and pop music.
In addition to her music career, Stansfield ventured into acting, appearing in films such as “Swing” (1999) and “The Edge of Love” (2008). After a hiatus from the music industry, she returned with the album “Seven” in 2014, followed by “Deeper” in 2018, both receiving positive reviews.
