Cassidy’s breakthrough came in 1970 when he was cast as Keith Partridge in the musical sitcom The Partridge Family. His portrayal of the charming eldest son in a family band catapulted him to teen idol status. Seeking to establish himself beyond his television persona, Cassidy embarked on a solo music career, releasing albums such as Cherish (1972) and Rock Me Baby (1972). He also pursued acting roles in theater and television, earning an Emmy nomination for his performance in Police Story in 1978.
Throughout his life, Cassidy faced personal challenges, including struggles with alcoholism and financial difficulties.
