​Jonathan Gregory Brandis was born on April 13, 1976, in Danbury, Connecticut, United States. He began his career as a child model and transitioned into acting at a young age, appearing in commercials and television shows. Brandis gained early recognition for his role as Kevin Buchanan on the soap opera “One Life to Live” in 1982.​
In the early 1990s, Brandis became a prominent teen actor. He starred as Bastian Bux in “The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter” (1990) and portrayed Bill Denbrough in the television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s “It” the same year. His most notable role was as Lucas Wolenczak, a teenage prodigy, in the science fiction series “seaQuest DSV” (1993–1996), which brought him widespread fame and a dedicated fan base.​
Despite his early success, Brandis faced challenges transitioning into adult roles. He appeared in various films and television projects, including “Sidekicks” (1992) and “Ladybugs” (1992), but struggled to maintain the same level of prominence. His later career included roles in independent films and guest appearances on television shows.​
Tragically, Jonathan Brandis died by suicide on November 12, 2003, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 27. His untimely death highlighted the pressures faced by young actors in the entertainment industry.
