The actor Crispin Glover celebrates 61 today
Crispin Hellion Glover was born on April 20, 1964, in New York City, New York. The only child of actors Bruce Glover and Mary Louise Pfeiffer, he spent his childhood immersed in the world of performance, often accompanying his father to film sets and theatrical rehearsals. Educated in Los Angeles, he discovered a passion for the offbeat and experimental, studying dance and avant‑garde theater before making his first screen appearances as a teenager.
Glover’s breakthrough came in 1985 when he portrayed the awkward yet endearing George McFly in “Back to the Future,” leaving a lasting imprint despite limited screen time. That same year, his chilling turn in “River’s Edge” showcased a darker intensity, cementing his reputation as a fearless character actor. Throughout the late 1980s and ’90s he gravitated toward daring, eclectic projects—starring in “Willard,” collaborating with David Lynch on “Wild at Heart,” and taking on unconventional roles in films like “Something Wild” and “The Doors.”
Beyond acting, Glover has carved out a singular niche as a filmmaker, writer and performance artist. He wrote, directed and starred in the surreal cult films “What Is It?” and “It Is Fine! Everything Is Fine.,” and has published a series of illustrated, typographically rich books that blend autobiography, literary collage and social critique. With a career spanning four decades, Crispin Glover remains one of cinema’s most enigmatic and inventive talents, continually pushing the boundaries of form and genre.
