Peter Frampton celebrates 75 today

Peter Frampton was born on April 22, 1950, in Bromley, Kent, England. The son of a British Airways pilot, he grew up in a musically inclined household and received his first guitar at age 10. By his mid-teens he was already a seasoned performer, joining the influential rock band Humble Pie in 1968 alongside Steve Marriott and making his recording debut just before his 18th birthday.
After two albums with Humble Pie, Frampton struck out on his own in 1972, releasing a pair of well‑received solo records that showcased his melodic sensibility and burgeoning flair as a songwriter. His career reached stratospheric heights in 1976 with the double‑live album “Frampton Comes Alive!,” which captured the Grammy‑nominated hits “Show Me the Way,” “Baby, I Love Your Way” and “Do You Feel Like We Do,” and made him one of the world’s best‑selling artists of the decade.
Through the late 1970s and ’80s Frampton continued to record and tour, experimenting with synthesizers and production styles on albums like “I’m in You” and “Where I Should Be.” A vocal disorder in the early 2000s nearly silenced him, and a diagnosis of throat cancer in 2006 led to life‑saving surgery—but by 2007 he was back onstage. Over five decades into his career, Peter Frampton remains a beloved figure in rock, celebrated for his warm, expressive guitar tone, his pioneering use of the talk box, and a live‑performance legacy that still draws fans around the globe.
