Roy Thomas Baker 1946-2025

Baker co-produced several of Queen’s early albums, including Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, and Jazz. His work on “Bohemian Rhapsody” is particularly renowned, showcasing his innovative production techniques. Baker’s production credits also included albums for The Cars, Journey, Foreigner, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, and The Smashing Pumpkins, among others

Roy Thomas Baker was born on November 10, 1946, in Hampstead, London, England. Baker began his career in music at the young age of 14, working as an apprentice engineer at Decca Studios. There, he contributed to recordings by prominent artists such as David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and The Who. He later moved to Trident Studios, where he co-founded Neptune Productions and began a significant collaboration with Queen. Baker co-produced several of Queen’s early albums, including Queen, Queen II, Sheer Heart Attack, A Night at the Opera, and Jazz. His work on “Bohemian Rhapsody” is particularly renowned, showcasing his innovative production techniques.​
Beyond Queen, Baker’s production credits include albums for The Cars, Journey, Foreigner, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, and The Smashing Pumpkins, among others. He also held executive roles, such as Senior Vice-President of A&R at Elektra Records, where he was instrumental in signing major acts like Metallica. Baker’s contributions to the music industry have left a lasting legacy, influencing the sound of rock music across multiple decades.
Baker passed away on April 12, 2025, at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, at the age of 78.​
