In 1967, BBC’s Top of the Pops broadcast The Jimi Hendrix Experience performing “Purple Haze”
On May 4, 1967, on the BBC broadcast of Top of the Pops, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, then already established in Europe as one of the biggest Rock acts, performed “Purple Haze.” Reportedly, Mick Jagger went to pay a visit to Hendrix before the performance that took place in London. Hendrix sang over an instrumental backing track to meet regulations of the British Musicians. Also performing on the show were The Tremeloes, The Move, The Who, The Kinks, Neil Diamond, Chris Farlowe, The Monkees and Sandie Shaw.
