The Eternally Glamorous and Talented Joan Collins celebrates 92
Joan Henrietta Collins was born on May 23, 1933, in London, England. She was raised in a creative household — her father, Joseph Collins, was a theatrical agent, and her mother, Elsa, was a dance teacher. Joan showed an early interest in acting and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.
Collins began her film career in the early 1950s, quickly gaining attention in British cinema for her beauty and on-screen charisma. She was soon signed by 20th Century Fox, moving to Hollywood where she starred in a series of films including Land of the Pharaohs (1955), The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing (1955), and The Opposite Sex (1956).
Despite moderate success in films, her true breakthrough came in television. In 1981, she joined the cast of Dynasty as Alexis Carrington, a role that turned her into an international superstar. Her portrayal of the fierce, fashion-forward villainess helped catapult the show to global success and earned her a Golden Globe Award in 1983.
Beyond Dynasty, Collins appeared in numerous TV movies, mini-series, and stage productions. She also authored several novels, memoirs, and lifestyle books, proving her talent extended beyond acting.
Joan Collins has been married five times. Her high-profile relationships and glamorous lifestyle often kept her in the tabloids, but she remained focused on her career and family. She is the mother of three children, including actress Tara Newley.
Known for her wit, style, and fierce independence, Collins has also been a vocal advocate for women’s rights and aging with confidence. In 2015, she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for her services to charity.
Today Joan Collins continues to act, write, and appear in public life. Her influence on fashion, television, and popular culture endures with her iconic roles and unapologetic glamourestone Award from the Producers Guild of America. Beatty received the British Academy Fellowship from BAFTA, and in 2011, he was awarded the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award.
