Brian Wilson 1942-2025

Regarded as one of the biggest composers of the 20th century, the Beach Boys co-founder and mastermind Brian Wilson passed away at age 82

Singer, songwriter and the main creative force behind the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson was born on June 20, 1942, in Inglewood, California, U.S. Brian co-founded the Beach Boys in 1961 with his brothers Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. The band. which started as a Pop/Surf Rock act, went on to became one of the most experimental towards the late 1960’s, influencing other bands and artists such as The Beatles. Their masterpiece, “Pet Sounds” released in 1966, was hugely influential on The Beatles creating their 1967 masterpiece “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” Wilson’s unorthodox approaches to pop composition and mastery of recording techniques, made him one of the biggest Pop and Rock composers and musicians of our time, but with fame and success came also mental illness. As he suffered repeated nervous breakdowns, together with his diminished musical contributions, his erratic behavior led to tensions with the band. During the 1970’s, he was increasingly reputed for his hermitic lifestyle and substance abuse, and it wasn’t up until the late 1990’s that Wilson returned to the music industry, recording and performing again consistently as a solo artist. Brian Wilson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Brian Wilson passed away at age 82 on June 11th, and the cause of death was not disclosed. Brian was the last survivor of the Wilson brothers that formed the Beach Boys, Carl and Dennis Wilson. We celebrate legacy by looking back at the Top 12 Beach Boys songs featuring Brian Wilson.
