Ace Frehley 1951-2025
Without Ace Frehley — a.k.a. The Spaceman — KISS might never have existed as the world came to know them, nor built the legacy and mythology that followed. Frehley, who passed away at age 74 on October 16, contributed to the development of the band’s iconic, instantly recognizable sound in equal measure to each of the other three founding members. During the band’s most memorable period, Frehley was an essential part of both the KISS sound and image. Look back at 10 of his best songs during the KISS golden era.
Ace Frehley aka The Spaceman was born Paul Daniel Frehley on April 27, 1951, in The Bronx, New York City. The original guitarist and founding member of KISS remained with the band from 1973 to 1982, regarded as their most creative and successful period, recording legendary albums such as “Kiss,” “Destroyer” or “Alive.” He returned to the band in 1996 but departed again in 2002. Despite the controversy surrounding the conflicts within the band’s original members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss, Frehley reunited with Kiss in October 2018, on the Kiss Kruise. The Spaceman also sung lead vocals in several Kiss songs and released his debut solo album “Ace Frehley” in 1978. After he left the band, he led a fairly successful solo career and was expected to join the band on stage in December 2025 to receive a presidential honor. Ace Frehley passed away at age 74 in New Jersey following a fall at his home that caused brain bleeding. RIP.
