The iconic American actress and singer Doris Day was born Doris Mary Anne Kappelhoff on April 3, 1922, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She began her career as a vocalist in the late 1930s, achieving her first major success with the song “Sentimental Journey” in 1945. Transitioning to film, Day made her debut in “Romance on the High Seas” (1948), leading to a series of successful musicals and comedies throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Notable films include “Calamity Jane” (1953), “Pillow Talk” (1959), and “The Man Who Knew Too Much” (1956), in which she introduced the Academy Award-winning song “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be).”
Beyond her entertainment career, Day was a dedicated animal welfare advocate. She passed away on May 13, 2019, at her home in Carmel Valley, California, at the age of 97.
