She starred in the workplace comedy smash “9 to 5” alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, writing the film’s title track, which became an anthem for working women everywhere and a Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit. She later charmed film audiences in the 1989 tear-jerker Steel Magnolias. Beyond Hollywood, Dolly proved to be an exceptionally sharp businesswoman. In 1986, she opened her namesake theme park, Dollywood, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, transforming her hometown region into a booming international tourist destination. Up until her final year, she remained a tireless creative force. In early 2026, she was actively overseeing the construction of her upcoming Life of Many Colors Museum and the SongTeller Hotel in Nashville, proving her hustle never stopped.
