U2’s Larry Mullen Jr. turns 62 today
Laurence Joseph Mullen Jr. was born on October 31st 1961 in Dublin, ireland, he co-founded U2 in 1976 after posting a message on the school’s notice board. Mullen has recorded 13 studio albums with U2. In the early days of U2, his contributions to the band were often limited to fills and drum rolls, but he became more involved in the writing of the songs later, particularly in conjunction with Adam Clayton, his partner in the rhythm section, with whom he has collaborated on solo projects Mullen has worked on numerous side projects during his career. In 1990, he produced the Ireland national football team’s song “Put ‘Em Under Pressure” for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. In 1996, he worked with U2 bandmate Adam Clayton on a dance re-recording of the “Theme from Mission: Impossible”. Mullen has sporadically acted in films, most notably in Man on the Train (2011) and A Thousand Times Good Night (2013). U2 came to prominence during the 1980’s, one of the most successful Rock bands of all time, they produced seminal Rock albums such as “Boy” 1980, “October” 1981, “War” 1983, “The Unforgettable Fire” 1984, “The Joshua Tree” 1987, “Rattle And Hum” 1988, “Achtung Baby” 1991, “Zooropa” 1993 and “Pop” 1997. They’ve scored several hits including “New Year’s Day”, “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Pride (In the Name of Love)”, “With or Without You”, “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”, “Where the Streets Have No Name””Desire”, “Mysterious Ways”, “One”, “Numb”, “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me”, “Discothèque”, “Sweetest Thing”, “Beautiful Day” and “Elevation”. One of the band’s highlights in their career was one they performed in 1985 at the Live Aid festival which introduced them to a wider audience. Larry Mullen Jr. was induced into The Rock N’ Roll Hall Of Fame in 2005 as a member of U2.
