Actress Joanna Cassidy turns 78



A prolific character actress, Joanna Cassidy was born in Haddonfield, New Jersey on August 2, 1945. Cassidy initially started her career as a model during the 1960’s, and by the early 1970’s she switched to acting, debuting in a 1972 episode of “Mission: Impossible”. In 1973 she had her first film role in “The Outfit” alongside Robert Duvall while continuing to appear in hit TV Shows such as “Mission: Impossible”, “Starsky & Hutch” and “Taxi” throughout the 1970’s and then the 1980’s in “Dallas”, “Falcon Crest”, and as a regular in “Buffalo Bill” for which she earned a Golden Globe Award in 1983. But perhaps her signature role, and most memorable is the one she played in the 1982 cult sci-fi movie “Blade Runner” as the resistance exotic android/replicant Zhora Salome, performing one of the movie’s most famous scenes together with Harrison Ford. Cassidy continued to work prolifically throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s, appearing in several TV series and movies and in 2002 had a recurring role as Margaret Chenowith on the HBO drama series “Six Feet Under”, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination. In recent years the actress has continued to work both on TV and in film. Today she turns 77.
