Australian singer Natalie Imbruglia was born on this day in 1975

Natalie Imbruglia was born on February 4th, 1975 in Sydney, Australia. Though she started as a TV actress in her native Australia, it was through music that her name gained international notoriety when in 1997 when her first international single, “Torn”, which was a cover of an Ednaswap song, reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, number one on airplay around the world and number one on the Billboard Airplay chart for 14 weeks. It sold more than one million copies in the United Kingdom alone. As of 2011, ‘Torn’ was the most played song on Australian radio since 1990. But despite all the success she enjoyed with “Torn”, her international career faded away towards the late 1990’s. Though still active as a singer and actress, she has earned one of the titles that no musician or singer wants to have, the one hit wonder. Natalie Imbruglia turns 49 today.
